    FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Is the club only for Americans?

Definitely not! Anyone can join! The membership is approximately one-third American and two-thirds women from all over the world who share the ability and desire to speak English.

What ages does the Club appeal to?

There are over 500 members representing a broad spectrum of ages from young mothers with babies to grandmothers.

What activities does the Club offer?

There is generally a meeting each month (September - June) at area hotels, with a featured speaker on a topic of interest (a créche is available for children). The meetings are usually for breakfast, but we also have seasonal events such as a traditional Thanksgiving luncheon and Christmas Tea, and other special fundraisers. Participation generally ranges between 75-100 women. In addition, we have each month a Mini- Program for smaller groups, often a visit to special places such as schools or companies, that are not usually open to casual visitors. For the children, the Club sponsors an extremely popular annual Halloween party.

There are more than 30 activity groups:

    • Sports such as tennis, squash, badminton, cycling, hiking and skiing

    • Foreign language groups: French, German, Italian.

    • International cooking, reading/literature, writers' workshop

    • Bridge, Mah Jongg, music appreciation, gardening, patchwork

    • Groups who meet for lunch and those who go out for dinner

    • Moms & Babies and Moms & Tots

If you have a particular interest that is not currently offered, why not introduce it? We are always open to new ideas.

The Club is a volunteer organization, thus there are a wide variety of ways to help and get involved: office work, newsletter, membership activities, hospitality, community service, organizing the Living in Lausanne course offered for newcomers in the Fall, to name but a few.

How much does it cost and how do I pay?

Annual dues are CHF 85, plus a one-time processing fee of CHF 20. Together with your application, you will receive a Bulletin de Versement. (payment slip) payable through your bank or in cash at the Post Office. On receipt of payment of your dues, you will immediately be able to start participating in all Club activities!

WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU TO THE CLUB!
