Activity Groups

AIWC Activity Groups are open to all members. The AIWC newsletter has further details about groups each month. We encourage you to take the opportunity to start your own Activity Group if the one you are interested in is full, and will assist you to do so. Art Quilting

Bridge

We meet once a week on Thursday afternoons between 13.30 - 17.00 at members' homes. Beginners are welcome. Please contact leader if you are interested in joining the group.

Needlepoint

We meet Wednesdays from 14:00-16:00 in St Sulpice. All levels are welcome. Please call or email leader for information.

Fun and Socializing

Explore Lausanne (Outings)

We are a new activity group that plans to meet once a month to discover Lausanne and its surroundings. This will usually take place on Fridays from 9h30 but could vary. Our outings will vary from simple walks to guided tours of historic sites and museums. When possible, an optional lunch is proposed. In December we are planning a trip to the Montreux Christmas Market on Tuesday, 6 December. In January, we will be meeting on Friday 20 January for an as yet undetermined activity. Free Spirits (Outings)

Explore Switzerland as well as neighboring France and Italy. We visit places that are celebrating special customs or that are having interesting cultural events. We also enjoy the restaurants, shopping, and much more. On Friday, 9 December, we will be going to the Basel Christmas Market. If you would like to participate, please contact Anne. For December’s Christmas Art Outing, we’ll visit the Nahmad collection of Surrealist paintings – Miro, Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky, etc at the Kunsthaus Zurich plus lunch at the restaurant there followed by Christmas shopping. This will take place on Wednesday 14 December. Train departs Lausanne at 9h20. Please let Alison know by Wednesday 7 December if interested in coming January’s meeting will be something locally at the end of the month, probably Thursday 26 (to be confirmed). “Describe something about a favorite painting or artisit”. Alison will send out details nearer the time. Please be willing to participate to make it more interesting for the group. Refreshments too.

Dream Interpretation I & II

Badminton

Fit and Fun Walking

Looking for a fun and social way of keeping fit? Walk information will be communicated early in the week via email to all participants who have signed up. The only requirements are that you have sufficient physical fitness to walk continuously for 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours. You will need good shoes or boots. Transportation to meeting places might occasionally require a car. If you are interested in this activity, please contact Jewell.

New Nordic Walking

This new activity group will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9h00. Our plan is to walk for about 45 minutes. No previous experience in Nordic walking is required; Lisa will explain the basics to those who have never done it. We will be meeting in Forel in a parking lot at the edge of the forest. The address to look for is Chemin de la Rochette 19, 1072 Forel. Leashed dogs are also welcome . Please contact Lisa to let her know if you are interested or need more information.

Skiing, Downhill, Advanced

We ski on Tuesdays during the season. Our group is of good intermediate to advanced level. We do not always guarantee return for school pick up so please check.

New Yoga

Hatha Yoga Taster Session with Donna Lambert BWY Dip RYT500, SYT Cert. New member Donna is proposing a yoga class for all interested members. She will be holding a trial session in February. The date will be fixed based on the availability of those interested. Please contact Donna if you would like to partcipate in this event. She will be able to give you more information concerning the time, venue and what you need to bring. Hatha Yoga links breath and movement, creating self awareness and mindfulness. We will focus on breathing, posture work and relaxation techniques to increase general health and wellbeing and relieve stress, developing a strong flexible boday and a calm balanced mind. It can relieve pain and my be adapted for injuries. Practicing yoga helps us relax and improve flexibility, muscle tone and stamina while restoring inner peace and creating a harmonious body/mind. Yoga is simple, easily adapted to our daily life allowing each person to progress at their own pace.
