Activity Groups

AIWC Activity Groups are open to all members.  Please click on the (+/-) symbols in the table below to expand / collapse the group descriptions.


(+/-) ART QUILTING

If you are interested in quilting and are looking to perfect your art, this group may interest you.

(+/-) ART STUDIO

This art group is for beginners and advanced artists alike. There is, however, a maximum limit of 5 people for this group.

(+/-) BADMINTON

The group meets once a week to play, and afterwards, they stay for a coffee and a chat.

(+/-) BRIDGE

These two bridge groups, one of which is for beginners, meet once a week in the afternoon. There are usually several tables and the modest winnings are donated to charity.

(+/-) BUSINESS MOTIVATION

The business motivation group meets once a month to discuss starting a small business.

(+/-) CYCLING

The weekly cycling tours usually take place in the countryside not far from Lausanne and sometimes along the Rhone in the Villeneuve area.

(+/-) DOG WALKING

Come and get some exercise, fresh air and some nice conversation as you walk for approximately one hour. Dog ownership not a prerequisite!

(+/-) DREAM GROUP

A Jungian psychoanalyst coaches these two groups in dream interpretation, teaching participants how to work with their dreams as a guide for daily living.

(+/-) ENGLISH CONVERSATION

There are now two groups of English converstation—one for beginners and one for medium to advanced English speakers.

(+/-) FREE SPIRITS

Explore Switzerland, neighboring France and Italy, visit places that are celebrating special customs, interesting cultural events, restaurants, shopping, and much more.

(+/-) FRENCH CONVERSATION

There are now two groups of French conversation. Both of these groups focus on medium to advanced conversation. Check the newsletter for meeting details.

(+/-) GARDENING GROUP

The Gardening Group organizes gardening seminars and garden tours for their members. All are welcome.

(+/-) GOLF

During the golf season, members get together to play at the various golf clubs in the area.

(+/-) HIKING

Everyone is welcome to join the group on their weekly hike.

(+/-) HISTORY OF ART

This is a newly started group for those interested in visiting local galaries and the history of art.

(+/-) INTERNATIONAL COOKING

Two culinary groups meet each month at members' homes in Lausanne and Vevey. The hostesses usually set the themes and provide ideas for recipes.

(+/-) JEWELRY MAKING

If you are interested in making your own jewelry, then this group is for you. A small fee is charged at the weekly meetings to cover the cost of materials.

(+/-) KNIT & STITCH GROUP

Some of the members knit and some enjoy embroidery while others simply enjoy the conversation. Newcomers are always welcome.

(+/-) LITERATURE

This congenial group meets once a month in the morning. Each meeting has a theme – either a specific book, a writer, or a topic. Active participation is encouraged but not obligatory.

(+/-) MAH-JONG

Come and explore this ancient and intriguing game. All levels are welcome.

(+/-) MONTHLY PLAYDATE

Playdate for Moms and their children, once a month, rain or shine.

(+/-) MUSIC APPRECIATION

This group meets once a month. The members take turns giving talks about different composers.

(+/-) NEEDLEPOINT

This group meets every week. Even if you do not know how to needlepoint, come and learn how.

(+/-) NEWSLETTER

If you want to learn new skills and have input into the newsletter content, then this is the group for you.

(+/-) NIGHT-N-GALS

It is always a treat to see what evening event this group has planned. Past events have included attending the theater, jazz performances, dinners, and film evenings.

(+/-) OUT-TO-LUNCH BUNCH

This group meets monthly at various restaurants in and around Lausanne.

(+/-) PARENTING WORKSHOP—EARLY YEARS

This is a new activity that helps to answer the question, "So now what do I do?"

(+/-) READERS

There are two reading groups—one in English and one in French. These groups of multicultural, multigenerational women love to read and talk about books.

(+/-) SCRABBLE

Come and enjoy this challenging game. Although the scrabble players aim for high scores, they play in a relaxed atmosphere, always ready to help each other and those who want to improve their skills.

(+/-) SKIING

Come and discover the Swiss mountains. Skiers meet once a week during the ski season, weather permitting.

(+/-) SQUASH

This is a small group of enthusiasts who play once a week. They swap partners after each game, so everyone gets to play at different levels. It is very informal and newcomers are always welcome.

(+/-) TENNIS

Tennis is open to anyone who likes to play doubles, and now there are two groups: one meets in Puidoux and one meets in Vidy. There are weekly games and two friendly tournaments each year. There is a fee for the use of the courts.
