Proposed Constitutional Amendment At its Board Retreat in November and further at its meeting 7 December, 2011, the Executive Board discussed the merits of changing the elected offices of Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary to better reflect current practice. With the rise in use of technology and computer-related communications, the traditional role of Corresponding Secretary has become redundant. The Executive Board recommends changing the Constitution to (1) eliminate the position of Corresponding Secretary and (2) rename the Recording Secretary: Secretary. Further, the job description of the Recording Secretary will be revised to include some of the clerical responsibilities of the former Corresponding Secretary. These changes would become effective for the club year July 2012-June 2013. A card containing this proposed amendment will be mailed in January so all permanent members can vote on this change. These ballots should be returned by January 31.

CURRENT
wording of the relevant sections of the Constitution:
ARTICLE III - OFFICERS AND THEIR ELECTIONS
Section 1. NAMED: The officers of the club shall be: President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer.

ARTICLE V - DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS
Section 3. RECORDING SECRETARY: The Recording Secretary shall keep an accurate and official record of all meetings of the Executive Board. She shall be responsible for filing all reports and tabulating the results of the balloting and shall assure that the latter are published in the Newsletter.

Section 4. CORRESPONDING SECRETARY: The Corresponding Secretary shall be responsible for: contact and follow-up with Board members and members at large concerning the Club calendar and deadlines; contact and follow-up with members at large with particular interests and/or skills for various Club activities and functions; and other administrative functions on an as-needed basis, provided such duties do not conflict with any other Board office or Committee.

PROPOSED The Executive Board approves the following changes to the AIWC Constitution:

ARTICLE III – OFFICERS AND THEIR ELECTIONS
Section 1: NAMED: The officers of the Club shall be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

ARTICLE V – DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS
Section 3: SECRETARY: The Secretary shall keep an accurate and official record together with any supporting documents of all meetings of the Executive Board. She shall be responsible for filing all reports and tabulating the results of balloting and shall assure that the latter are published in the newsletter.

Section 4 DELETED

Sections 5 and 6 to be renumbered 4 and 5 to reflect deletion of Section 4.

This proposed amendment is part of wider discussions amongst board members and members-at-large who have formed an Ad hoc Constitutional Change committee. The committee is considering the need to globally review our club's Constitution. This committee intends to continue meeting over the next several months with a view to drafting overall changes to the Constitution and for this we seek additional members as all voices of our club should be represented. Please contact our Parliamentarian, Lisa Mechnig-Giordano, or President, Deirdre McDaniel, with comments, questions or concerns and/or to participate on the Ad hoc committee.
